Downtown Atlanta sewer repairs will close part of a road for a month
Part of a downtown Atlanta road will shutter for more than a month due to emergency sewer repairs.
Edgewood Avenue between Piedmont Avenue and Jesse Hill Jr. Drive will be closed to traffic starting Monday, Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management said.
Work will take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is expected to last about six weeks.
Children’s Hughes Spalding Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital are near the impacted area.
Existing sewer mains on the stretch of road will be removed and replaced to repair defects and increase the system’s capacity, authorities said.
Detours will be in place. Motorists are asked to use Coca Cola Place, Jesse Hill Jr. Drive and Auburn Avenue to avoid the area.
Emergency sewer repairs have also closed a busy Midtown road until just before Atlanta Pride weekend on Oct. 11–12.
Lane closures are in place on 10th Street between Peachtree Street and just east of Myrtle Street. Piedmont Avenue from 10th Street to just past Campagnolo and Kat’s Cafe will also see impacts.
