Contracts have been approved by all sides and construction should begin soon at the heavily-trafficked intersection of Barnwell Road and Holcomb Bridge Road/Ga. 140 in southwestern Johns Creek.

Improving the intersection is a Tier 1 TSPLOST project for the city.

Plans include separating the combined lanes on Barnwell Road to provide dual left-turn lanes, a through lane and a right turn lane which will reduce the traffic backup on Barnwell Road as it approaches Holcomb Bridge Road.

In addition, the project will raise the elevation of Barnwell Road to provide a safer left turn onto Holcomb Bridge Road from Barnwell Road. The project also fills in a pedestrian connectivity gap along Barnwell Road (from Holcomb Bridge Road to Niblick Drive) with the addition of a sidewalk and pedestrian bridge over Hogan Creek.

The Johns Creek City Council recently approved a construction agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation, a $5,333,333 construction contract with C. W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc., and a $325,503 construction, engineering, and inspection services task order with Atlas Technical Consultants for the project.
