The Lilburn City Council voted recently to amend their massage establishments ordinance.

In July 2019, the state adopted amendments to the Georgia Massage Therapy Practice Act. The amendments recognize massage therapists as healthcare professionals and gives the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy the power to regulate the practice of massage therapy in Georgia.

The law prohibits cities from limiting where a massage therapy business can be located, and prevents the city from prohibiting off-premises or mobile services by a licensed massage therapist. The new state law also prohibits the city from collecting fees that are not imposed on other licensed healthcare professionals.
