For volunteer tombstone cleaners, the Marietta Museum of History is announcing new hands-on workshops to be held at the Marietta City Cemetery, 420 W. Atlanta St., Marietta.

The two workshops will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 23 and 30, weather permitting. If needed, the rain date will be the Sunday following each date - 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 24 and Oct. 31.

Tickets are $25 per person, and each workshop is limited to 10 people.

With each workshop, attendees also will be given a tour and history of the cemetery.

Established in the early 1830s, the Marietta City Cemetery is the final resting place of many Marietta and Cobb County citizens. As an artifact, the cemetery tombstone often is the only record of the person’s life. However, many of the tombstones need to be cleaned.

These workshops will help teach participants the proper tools, products and techniques to use to clean a tombstone while doing no harm to the tombstone or the landscape.

The Marietta City Cemetery is divided into two sections: “A” is the Old City Cemetery, and “B” is the City Cemetery. These sections are adjacent to, but separate, from the Marietta Confederate Cemetery.
