Alpharetta says residents planning home improvements should be aware of new stormwater regulations that could affect them.

The city said it approved the new rules in December to comply with a state mandate, requiring local governments to adopt model ordinances to better manage water resources. Information: https://bit.ly/3py1aD1

Among the changes cited by the city: Single-family residences are no longer exempt from Georgia stormwater rules requiring mitigation of runoffs and impacts, if adding or replacing 5,000 square feet or more of impervious area such as driveways, roofs and patios.

Also, projects that add between 1,000 and 4,999 square feet of impervious surface may be subject to a tiered system of requirements. However, some projects undertaken to meet ADA requirements may be exempt.
