KITCHEN TIPS

Candice Olson, host of HGTV’s “Divine Design” and “Candace Tells All,” recently led a Luxury Living Kitchen and Bath Forum at Phipps Plaza devoted to new trends in the kitchen. Here are her tips:

  • Hardworking, family-friendly quartz countertops will stand up to lots of use.
  • New, jewel-like hardware in silver and black dresses up traditional cabinets with a modern accent.
  • A glass-tile backsplash adds luminous depth to walls.
  • Good design is green design, so include a recycling center with pull-out bins to hold cans, paper and bottles.
  • For the centerpiece of a new kitchen, an antique piece of furniture can be repurposed as an island.
  • Before laying the floor, install a radiant heating system to keep the floor toasty in winter.
