Attorney Nicole Bogard’s desire for her family’s Buckhead home was to blend cherished paintings with furniture and lighting that complemented and drew attention to the original artwork. When guests walked into her living room, for example, Bogard said she envisioned the whole room to be seen as a “work of art.”
“For us, we love the artwork and we really wanted to be able to choose a style that would emphasize our pieces of art,” she said.

Residents: Phil and Nicole Bogard and their children, Peyton, 14, and Paige, 11
Location: Buckhead
Size: About 3,050 square feet (excluding the finished basement), five bedrooms, four baths
Year built and bought: 2008
Architectural style: Colonial, with contemporary elements. For example, the builder blended a richly carved fireplace mantle in the living room with Miele and Sub-Zero appliances in the kitchen.
Renovations: Small changes included increasing the size of the kitchen island, turning a "panic room" in the basement into a wine cellar and extending the outdoor space.
Design consultants: Interior designers Nina Nash and Don Easterling of Mathews Furniture
Interior design style: Eclectic, with a bent toward contemporary. "We like a contemporary flair, but we also want the warmth of some more traditional pieces," Nicole said.
Favorite interior design element: Spotlighting their art collection, which includes vibrant pieces by Gevorg, an Armenian-based artist, positioned in the living room above the fireplace and above a Hickory Chair console from Mathews Furniture. Another painting by Gevorg, called "Family," was purchased as a surprise by Phil for Nicole's birthday, just before she saw it at the same gallery on her own and expressed a desire to buy it. When Nicole saw it at the top of the stairs on her birthday, she said she immediately started crying. "My husband had found that piece of artwork and knew I would love it," she said.
Favorite outdoor feature: The stone fireplace on the stone patio, which is a computer-, phone- and TV-free zone. "Spending time outside and around our fireplace has become just such a bonding experience for our family," Nicole said. "We just talk and spend time together."
Favorite furniture pieces: A high-backed wing chair in a deep, majestic blue by Hickory Chair and a new cocktail table by Keno Bros., both in the living room, are among Nicole's favorites. Phil's favorite items include the Ferguson Copeland Catalina leather sectional in the family room. All pieces are from Mathews Furniture.
Furniture by Baker Furniture, Century Furniture, Ferguson Copeland, Hickory Chair, Keno Bros., Milling Road and Stickley, and lighting from Mottega and Visual Comfort, all available from Mathews Furniture.
