The hustle and bustle of Atlanta and the metro area can certainly take a toll. If that’s something you’d like to escape soon, then look no further than about 300 miles south of Atlanta.

Amelia Island, Florida features a variety of fun for everyone from families to nature buffs. Atlanta magazine recently outlined a host of things to do on the island and there's no shortage of options.

A relaxing oasis

Taking a vacation often means spending time doing as little as possible. Amelia Island offers spas at world-class resorts including  The Ritz-Carlton and local spots like Janet Lynne Salon & Spa. Unwind with yoga on the beach or tour the Sprouting Project, where a culinary team at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort offers guests the opportunity to learn about things such as blending their own hot sauce to sipping barrel-aged cocktails and experiencing a state-of-the-art aquaponic greenhouse.

Fun-filled family time

Kids can start saying "Ahoy!" as early as sunrise during a visit to Amelia's Pirate Playground, which is not only fun but provides a lesson in history. Explore the island via Segway with Amelia's Wheels, which ranked in the top 20 of TripAdvisor's list of tours on the island.

Adventures await

Fort Clinch State Park offers bike trails and hiking as well as camping, shelling and shark-tooth hunting. Around the island, golfing and tennis courts abound. Water sports including paddle boarding and kayaking are also offered at locations such as The Addison On Amelia Island.

Exploring nature

Amelia Island is considered one of Florida's natural wonders and at the Amelia Island Nature Center, a naturalist can help guests see why. Visitors can also visit with local rescued animals. Wildlife is also abundant here, where gopher tortoises are well-known.

Dining near the ocean

The island offers several spots to grab a meal, including David's Restaurant & Lounge , which provides upscale seafood and steak while Down Under Restaurant showcases a relaxed atmosphere to dine on local seafood with a fishing camp-feel. There's also the industrial setting of Amelia Tavern Restaurant & Brewpub, which features beer brewed on-site.
