Photos: The elements of midcentury modern

A wall of music memorabilia covers one wall of Jeff and Paola Roder’s dining room. Records that they found in storage in a home they owned in Philadelphia mixed with art from the Music Icons series of stamps from the U.S. Postal Service creates a gallery wall. The guest bathroom of Michaela Graham’s home is a vivid green. She bought a mid-century modern shower curtain online and matched the walls to the shade of green in the curtain. A purple chaise lounge from Overstock.com provides a luxurious space to relax just inside the home of Michaela Graham. A garage door in front of the chaise opens up to the pool area of her home. In the entryway of Paola and Jeff Roder’s home hangs a painting of a large pink alligator titled “Gay Gator” by local artist Liz Haywood. Light wood cabinets add warmth to the modern kitchen and break the all-white motif found in the rest of Grant Henry’s living spaces. In the Kirkwood neighborhood in Atlanta, Alison Weidner enjoys her sunroom by starting each day with reading a book with a cup of coffee. The inspiration for the design is midcentury modern meets Scandanavian minimalism.
