The open flow from the kitchen to the family room of Gail Burns-Grant’s home is one of her favorite features because it allows her to cook and entertain at the same time, and it gives her living space a great flow. “I buy a home where I can imagine people gathering,” said Burns-Grant. Gail Burns-Grant and her mother, Lillie Burns, love to sit out on the front porch of their Tributary
Village home and greet their neighbors, or hear the children play in the park across the street. “I like to leave the light on at night. It gives a really nice ambience to the house,” said Burns-Grant. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

Gail Burns-Grant loves the space in her master bathroom. With its large window giving the room natural light and plenty of counter space, the room works perfectly for her. She loves the spa bath especially. “It’s a place where I do a lot of meditation. I can have some away time for just me,” said Burns-Grant. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

Gail Burns-Grant moved into her Douglasville home in 2018 after a two-year search for the perfect place. The other guest room of Gail Burns-Grant’s home belongs to her mother, Lillie Burns, who lives with Burns-Grant for about half of the year. Much of the art in here is from Burns-Grant’s time working in South Africa, and there are also prints of art by Floyd Gordon, an artist from South Carolina.

There is a large upstairs bonus room with its own ensuite bathroom in Gail Burns-Grant’s home where her daughter, Livi Grant, who is an analyst for Microsoft, stays. The ornate antique French country bed in that room is from Big Shanty Antiques & Auctions, and the bedding is from HomeGoods. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

Gail Burns-Grant bought her home in 2018 in the Tributary Village community in Douglasville. The ranch-style home called to Burns-Grant because it was laid out in a way that when her daughter and mother were both staying with her they could all have their own space in the home. The house is 2,894 square feet, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

“It’s large but it’s not too large. It’s still cozy,” said Gail Burns-Grant of her master bedroom. “All of the things that I love fit in that room and make me feel warm.” The bed is by Kincaid Furniture for Havertys and the bench at the foot of the bed is from Wayfair. A coffee table from Big Shanty Antiques & Auctions centers the family room of Gail Burns-Grant’s home. Its dark wood and slightly rustic finish means that Burns-Grant doesn’t worry about guests damaging it or leaving rings from drinks. “They can just feel real comfortable and at home in my house,” said Burns-Grant. She also enjoys her gas fireplace, which adds easy warmth and comfort to the space. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

In Gail Burns-Grant’s home office she has a Tommy Bahama writing desk and a secretary desk by Pulaski Furniture that she found at Woodstock Antiques & Consignments. Grounding the space is a rug that Burns-Grant purchased in Johannesburg, South Africa, when she worked there. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

Gail Burns-Grant loves that her wood kitchen cabinets and quartz countertops are a warm neutral color because it allows her to change up her other kitchen decor without worrying about clashing. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

The kitchen table and wooden chairs in the breakfast nook of Gail Burns-Grant’s home are from Havertys. Burns-Grant found the upholstered chairs at The Rustic Market and had them reupholstered to match her warm and traditional decor. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

Silver and white covers the Christmas tree in Gail Burns-Grant’s family room. Her sister, who also made the wreath on the front door, decorated the tree for her with a nod to simplicity and snow, which Burns-Grant said she enjoys bringing into her home even though actual snow is scarce at her Georgia home. She also loves antiques and traditional style, so when she had trouble finding a vintage phonograph she purchased a wood-paneled reproduction from JCPenney that now sits in the family room. Gail Burns-Grant purchased her family room sofa, a Radley five-piece fabric chaise sectional sofa in heavenly cinder grey from Macy’s, before she found her Douglasville home. “I promised myself I was going to find a house that could accommodate a large sectional,” said Burns-Grant, who loves hosting her large family. The sitting room off of Lillie Burns’ living area has a sofa from Havertys. The art print above the sofa, by artist Paul Goodnight, centers the space and adds slash of brilliant color. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

The dining room of Gail Burns-Grant’s home is warm and elegant, with a table and chairs from Macy’s Furniture Gallery and a rug by Karastan. Burns-Grant loves to entertain, so when she was looking for the perfect home, a dining room was on her must-have list. Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers

The back porch of Gail Burns-Grant’s home is great for relaxing and looking out over her backyard, where in the springtime flowers bloom. The chairs out there came from Walmart and Burns-Grant found the wicker loveseat at a local yard sale, and she combined the seating with an Oriental rug from Macy’s that used to be part of her interior decor. A framed art print by Charles Bibbs hangs in the entryway of Gail Burns-Grant’s home. Burns-Grant features art from many African American artists throughout her home, often depicting strong women. “Most of the pieces and art depict women, because I believe that we have been the backbone for our families,” said Burns-Grant. “The art reminds me of women who have come before me to make a path for my journey.” Text by Shannon Dominy/Photo by Reynolds Rogers
