Photos: Couple imbues dream home with personality

When Richard and Gay Berardi moved to Roswell from a Chicago suburb in 2008, they were concerned they wouldn’t be able to find everything they wanted in a home.

With three grandchildren and a love of entertaining, a backyard with a pool was one of the couple’s must-haves when they were looking for their forever home in 2008. One of the first major changes that Richard and Gay Berardi made to their Roswell home after purchasing it in 2008 was remodeling their kitchen. Gay and Richard Berardi’s Roswell home is colorful and full of meaningful pieces. “The colors reflect my wife’s personality,” said Richard. “Bright, bubbly, upbeat.” The couple worked with Naomi Mann of Mann-Made and Lisa D’Aoust, an interior designer formerly of Gray Designs. The antique chandelier that hangs in the dining room of Richard and Gay Berardi’s Horseshoe Bend house is from The Big Chandelier, but interior designer Naomi Mann redesigned it to make it a one-of-a-kind piece for the Berardis’ home. Richard and Gay Berardi’s primary suite is light and open, with dark wood furniture by Thomasville Furniture grounding the room. Blue and green bedding by Tracy Porter and from Pottery Barn give the room a touch of whimsy echoed in the silhouette art on the wall and the heart-shaped multimedia art above the bed from Accentrics. Wingback chairs that were repholstered by Budget Upholstery and Fabrics frame the tv in the den of Richard and Gay Berardi’s home, and a rug from Design Expo ties the space together. Richard’s collection of 18 original Hartland baseball figures line the mantel, and on the walls and shelves signed autographs by favorite players sit side by side with photos and mementos from his own children and students. The darker wallpaper and gold accents create more of a jewel box vibe, and the touches of animal print in the decor tie it in with the rug in the study across the hall. The outdoor living area that Gay and Richard Berardi added to their backyard in 2015 has a retractable awning by Peachtree Awnings and lighting by Pinnacle Lighting Group. The couple loves to entertain family and friends, including large neighborhood parties that flow out of the backdoors in their kitchen and into the backyard. In 2009, shortly after moving into their Roswell home, Gay and Richard Berardi remodeled their kitchen. They chose to keep the backsplash and glazed cabinets, which had been recently replaced, and then they installed new granite countertops from Premier Surfaces and added touches of Gay’s signature blue and white china. The blue chairs by the windows in Richard and Gay Berardi’s great room are custom from interior designer Naomi Mann. The trumeau mirror over the fireplace was also sourced through Mann, who found it at 14th Street Antiques & Modern Home. One of Gay and Richard’s favorite things about their home is the large windows that line the back, filling the space with light that goes perfectly with their colorful and airy style. The sitting area of Gay and Richard Berardi’s bedroom is full of natural light from the large windows that look out over their backyard and the Horseshoe Bend Country Club golf course beyond. An eye-catching seascape from Thompson’s Frame & Gallery hangs over the fireplace, and the fireplace screen is from Josephine’s Antiques and Fine Linens. The antique double secretary in Richard and Gay Berardi’s great room is a family heirloom passed down from Gay’s great-grandparents. Her grandfather’s violin, which Richard had restored as a surprise, sits atop the secretary with a photo of her grandfather, and on either side stand lamps with dripping crystals, passed down from Gay’s mother.
