When Kevin and Latonda Henderson bought their home in 2016, the cement slab that made up the front porch was beginning to crumble away, so they decided to use a brick tile in a herringbone pattern to finish the porch floor. Residential architect Robert Norris purchased this Loring Heights property 15 years ago, remodeling it five years later to create a more cohesive look between the home and garden. Though he doesn't like to remove trees, he did sacrifice one magnolia that blocked sunlight to the front yard. "I couldn't get anything to grow," he said. Now, curving beds filled with boxwoods, hostas and caladiums draw the eye to the front door and give the landscape structure.

Alex Woollcott's front yard in early spring offers a mix of tropical and temperate plants, including the gray Bismarck palm, a Dominican sabal and (on the far right) the Georgia native needle palm, the world's most cold-hardy palm.

Nicholas and Elliott Niespodziani’s slate-blue Victorian home in Atlanta was built in 1892. The couple bought it in 2013. With the help of Nicholas’ father, they have completed the porch with steps and railing, installed gutters and added a custom-built door.
