Before & After: From Atlantic Steel to Atlantic Station

Photos: Atlantic Station has become one of the city's most visible and dynamic landmarks, but generations of Atlantans remember the site as the old Atlantic Steel complex.

The project sits on the site of the old Atlantic Steel complex, opened in 1901. This 1979 photo shows its proximity to downtown Atlanta. The company president, at the time, told the AJC the site "located at the I-75-85 interchange and 14th Street occupies the only 200-acre site in the country that is so close to an urban area."
