About 100 Atlanta adults and children are being offered a chance to gather free sweets for their sweets for Valentine’s Day.

They’ve been invited on Thursday, the day before Valentine’s Day, to Atlanta’s Park Coan Recreation Center, where they’ll rotate through interactive sweet stations and select some tasty treats for that special someone.

“At the heart of this event is a simple but powerful message: Giving is just as sweet as receiving,” said Shacole A. Pearman, one of the event organizers.

Participants will be able to present the sweets to their sweet in a special box. Each box will be topped with a handwritten note as a reminder that a few kind words can be a day brightener, organizers said.

Most of the youngsters who are participating in the event are in the Coan Park after-school program. The adults live in Columbia Residential communities.

“We want children to experience the magic of making someone else smile,” Pearman said, “and we hope this small gesture of kindness will leave a lasting impact.”

Columbia Residential Resident Services, the City of Atlanta Parks & Recreation and Xfinity are hosting the event.
