But Saturday night's show was about BTS, the first K-pop band to play on the long-running show, The New York Times reported.

The seven-member group became the first K-pop, or Korean pop group, to crack the Billboard 200 album sales chart last year, Rolling Stone reported.

Saturday night, the group -- J-Hope, Jin, V, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga and RM -- performed "Boy With Luv" from "Map of the Soul: Persona," their new album; and also "Mic Drop," CNN reported. "Boy With Luv" already has been viewed more than 100 million times on YouTube, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Their fans, known as ARMY, were in full force on Twitter and Instagram during the band's two performances, with Dazed writer Colleen Nika summing up the enthusiasm by tweeting BTS "crushed it."

"That's how you say, 'What's up America?'" Nika tweeted.
