Atlanta dinosaurs get all cleaned up

Fernbank Museum of Natural History's registrar, Wil Grewe-Mullins had some annual cleaning to do Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in the museum's atrium where the Giants of the Mesozoic display is featured in Atlanta, Georgia.

Joey Briere, 6, (right) of Marietta thought it was cool that the dinosaurs were getting cleaned.

Both are made of fiberglass and various resins and cast from the original fossils.

Fernbank launched 90 Days of Dinosaurs on Memorial Day after the opening of their new plaza featuring dinosaur exhibits and Imax.

Brushes are used to clean the prehistoric giants.

It takes Grewe-Mulins an entire day to go from ladders to lifts using various brushes to remove the dust and cobwebs.

Two dinosaur casts, one of the world's largest dinosaur, a Argentinosaurus 123 feet long and the world's largest meat eater, a Giganotosaurus, 47 feet long - needed to be thoroughly dusted by hand.

This exhibition recreates life in the badlands of Patagonia, Argentina, where the largest dinosaurs in the world were unearthed.

The cleaning usually took place before opening hours but was done during public times because the museum thought the public would be interested.
