The DeKalb County School District launched a smartphone app this week to aid parents and guardians in tracking information about their child’s school bus.

The Edulog Parent App is designed to offer real-time information about school bus routes and location. Notifications can be sent as the vehicles near bus stops, schools or other alert zones, according to a district new release.

The announcement follows a pledge by Superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris to address issues with bus drivers that in some cases have upended schedules. Recently, 56 drivers in Region I missed worked, which caused transportation woes for hundreds of parents and students.

Watson-Harris said at a board of education meeting this week that the district is responding to bus drivers’ call for better COVID-19 safety measures and pay increases.

“We are very grateful for all of our bus drivers,” Watson-Harris said.

School systems across the county are facing a bus driver shortage, including those in metro Atlanta. Some districts are assigning drivers double routes or adjusting pick up and drop off schedules to get children to class on time.
