Lisa Herring, hired as superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools in 2020, will deliver her first State of the District presentation later this month.

The virtual event will start at noon Nov. 18 and will be shown on the district’s Facebook page.

Herring was most recently the superintendent of the Birmingham, Alabama school system. She is a Georgia native who grew up in Macon and completed her undergraduate studies at Spelman College.

She was chosen for the top job at APS from a field of 84 candidates, following the school board’s national search to find a successor to former superintendent Meria Carstarphen.

Herring was sworn in at APS in July 2020, several months after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
