WellStar Health System has been a fixture in metro Atlanta for almost 25 years. On July 1, 1993, several hospitals merged to become WellStar Health System. These facilities include WellStar Cobb Hospital, WellStar Douglas Hospital, WellStar Kennestone Hospital, WellStar Pauling Hospital and WellStar Windy Hill Hospital.

On April 1, 2016, WellStar became the largest health system in Georgia and one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the country when it acquired Tenet Healthcare’s five Georgia-based hospitals and formed a new partnership with West Georgia Health in LaGrange.

Expansions

• WellStar Vinings Health Park opens September 2017. The 162,000-square-foot health park is a community-based. Patients can have diagnostic testing, physician visits, physical therapy and fill prescriptions in one location.

• WellStar Kennestone Hospital will break ground on its new $160 million Emergency Department this fall. Kennestone has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Georgia and the 5th busiest in the nation. It also is home to a Level II Trauma Center. At 150,000 square feet, the new ED will be the second largest in the U.S., enabling the ED and trauma teams to better meet the needs of a growing community. Capacity will double from 84 to 166 beds.

The clinic has a unique care model, connecting patients to a collaborative health team, including cardiologists, pulmonologists, palliative medicine, behavioral health professionals, advanced practice professionals, nurses, medical assistants, a respiratory therapist, a nutritionist, case manager, social worker, clinical pharmacists, nurse navigators, front office staff and more.

• WellStar helps team members focus on work while they are at work and on their families when they are home. Programs include flex-time, on-site child care, concierge service and backup care for elderly family members or sick children.
