Whole Foods is known for selling health food at a premium price, but one California location is taking heat online for stocking its shelves with “asparagus water.”
A shopper at Whole Foods in Brentwood, California, took a photo of bottles filled with water and three to four asparagus stalks. The label indicated that it was a Whole Foods offering, and it was being sold for $5.99 a bottle.
The shopper posted the image on Instagram, with the caption: “Somewhere in L.A., Whole Foods executives are laughing at all of us.”
Eater contacted Whole Foods for comment, and a company representative said the offering was a mistake. The product was meant to be a vegetable version of the trendy bone broth offerings but was "made incorrectly." The representative said the asparagus water was available only at the Brentwood location and has since been removed from the store.
