Vestar Technologies announced Friday it will open a headquarters and manufacturing facility in Covington, bringing 100 new jobs to the region.

The company will manufacture specialty metals that are made into products such as LED lighting and semiconductors.

It’s the first location for the new company, which is scheduled to open its doors in December.

The 99,000-square-foot facility in Newton County will be equipped with advanced manufacturing and processing equipment to make the metals needed in a variety of products.

“We are excited about the growth potential in the industries served and the opportunities this means for the people of the Covington area,” said Vestar Technologies CEO Robin Cook.

LaRhonda Jackson of the Georgia Department of Economic Development said the company will receive port tax credits amounting to $875,000, because it will be using the Georgia ports. Vestar also qualifies for a job tax credit that will amount to $2.1 million after if it creates the number of jobs it has committed to creating.

Vestar also will receive workforce training assistance from Georgia’s Quick Start program, which helps train the local workforce the specifications of new employers.
