UPS said it is creating an on-demand manufacturing network linking 3D printers at more than 60 UPS Stores and a 3D printing factory next to its air hub in Louisville, Ky.

The network allows customers to place 3D printing orders online at the website of 3D printing firm Fast Radius, formerly known as CloudDDM. Depending on the order it can be directed to a UPS Store or to the Louisville 3D printing factory opened by Fast Radius in partnership with UPS.

Sandy Springs-based UPS is also partnering with software maker SAP to simplify 3D printing for industrial customers.

SAP said its customers can digitize and simply the process for approval of production parts, then route them to UPS for production and delivery. That can help manufacturers of custom goods, industrial designers, engineers, start-ups and others, according to the company.
