Three metro Atlanta technology companies are among 100 chosen to receive Red Herring awards recognizing startups in the U.S. and Canada.

Organizers said 3,000 companies were considered for the Red Herring 2013 Top 100 North America Award. The businesses were evaluated on quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation and intellectual property, management quality, business model, customer footprint, and market penetration.

The metro Atlanta companies on the list include Atlanta-based AirWatch, a mobile security and enterprise mobility management provider; Paymetric, an Alpharetta-based provider of integrated and secure ePayment processing services; and Buckhead-based Snapfinger, which developed an app for ordering food from more than 28,000 restaurants.

According to the Technology Association of Georgia, other companies that have received the recognition include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Skype.
