The Kroger Co. is closing a Marietta ice cream manufacturing facility that employs more than 100 people.

The Southern Ice Cream Specialties plant in Marietta will close at the end of January, Kroger spokesman Glynn Jenkins said. It employs 140 people.

Jenkins said the workers there will receive help finding employment at other Kroger facilities or stores.

The work done at that facility will be consolidated with other plants across the country, Jenkins said. He said the move would help keep prices down for customers, allowing Kroger to remain competitive.

Southern Ice Cream Specialties makes Kroger-brand ice cream and novelties.
