Sunny Narshi, 22, could barely contain his excitement as he waited in line to buy the new iPhone 4S early Friday morning. He has owned every one of them.
"And loved every single one," he added. "I'm a proud iPhone user and finally I get the iPhone 4S with this great, great Siri, which I hope is going to do everything that it's entailed to do. It's one of those things where you tell what the machine what to do and it listens. It's like having a personal secretary."
Narshi, who is studying photography and information systems at Kennesaw State University, joined about 100 iPhone enthusiasts in line at the store across from Lenox Mall.
Sales began at 8 a.m. in each time zone across the United States. The phones are being sold at Apple stores, AT&T, Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless. Best Buy, Target and Walmart stores and authorized resellers. The cost of the new phones begin at $199 with a two-year contract. There's a choice of white or black. The new phone features the faster dual-core A5 chip; the 8MP camera with all-new optics and also shoots 1080p HD video.
Narshi plans to make good use of his phone in three major ways. "Calling, finding my way around town and just being organized," he said. "My phone keeps me organized. There's no planners anymore, it's all in my phone. "
"Anyone who gets their hands on it, they love it," said Keith Holmes, AT&T vice president and general manager for wireless and consumer business in Georgia, who was at the store near Lenox Mall on Friday.
Dave Janson, who is from Connecticut, said he just happened to be in the neighborhood and decided to get a replacement for his 3GS; He also has high expectations for the voice recognition technology: "I'm gonna start talking to my phone and have it to do things for me," he said.
