Georgia’s manufacturers posted across-the-board good news – upticks in new orders, production, inventory, even employment – for the month of February, according to Kennesaw State’s Purchasing Managers Index released Tuesday.

The monthly gauge of manufacturing activity rose 8.7 points to 62.5. Anything above 50 illustrates an expanding manufacturing sector. January’s rate barely budged from the previous month.

Don Sabbarese, director of the school’s Econometric Center, said February’s healthy upswing “was based on strong improvements of 13 and 14.7 points for New Orders and Production. Eighty three percent of respondents expect their production to increase in the next 3-6 months and 33 percent of respondents have increased hiring, which suggests respondents believe these increases are sustainable.”
