Gas prices climb in metro Atlanta

Gasoline prices continued their climb Tuesday after several weeks of declining prices.

AAA's Fuel Gauge Report showed the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Georgia was $3.38, up 3 cents from Monday and 13 cents above a week ago. The average price in metro Atlanta matched the state average. The national average was $3.47.

Prices are still below the levels of a month ago, but they're headed in the wrong direction. Last month at this time gas was selling for an average of $3.45 in metro Atlanta, AAA said.

Analysts expect the upward trend will continue for awhile.

"I expect the national average in the U.S. will rise 3 to 7 cents a gallon in the next week," said Patrick DeHaan of gasbuddy.com. "Overall, a lousy week for motorists, and I don't expect it to get much better any time soon."
