Alan Masarek, a former Google executive and University of Georgia graduate, is joining Internet phone service provider Vonage as chief executive officer.

Masarek, also will join Holmdel, N.J.-based Vonage’s board of directors. He is replacing Marc Lefar, who is retiring.

Masarek was director of Chrome and apps at Google. He co-founded Quickoffice Inc., an app provider that was acquired by Google in 2012. Google announced this year that it was pulling the plug on Quickoffice apps for Android and iOS devices.

Masarek also co-founded AdOutlet Inc., an online platform for media buying, and was a former president of Advanced Health Corp., a healthcare IT company.

Masarek received a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from UGA and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

In July Vonage announced plans to move its business services division from Midtown Atlanta to Cobb County, in an office in the Towers at Wildwood Plaza off of Windy Hill Road near Powers Ferry Road.

Vonage Business Solutions has about 450 employees in Atlanta. Vonage acquired Atlanta-based Vocalocity last year and renamed it Vonage Business Solutions.

Vonage reported revenue of $829 million last year and net income of $28.3 million.
