It looks like Facebook wants to be closer friends with Atlanta. The 500-million-strong social networking giant is expanding its sales office space into the heart of industrial Midtown.

Already pegged as one of the "fastest-growing offices in the East Region" and a "fantastic region" for the company on its website, Atlanta will soon be home to a 5,045-square-foot office in west Midtown, according to a building permit filed with the City of Atlanta.

Facebook will renovate and build out of Suite 137 at 1000 Marietta Street, a modern, warehouse-style complex currently occupied by 5 Seasons Restaurant and Brewery, Corporate Community Outsourcing and Sandler Hudson Gallery, among other tenants.

In a statement, Facebook said that the company has a growing sales presence in Atlanta and is expanding its offices in order to work more closely with advertisers in the region.

A Facebook spokesman said the company plans to hire locally for any positions that will become available with the expansion. The renovations will cost about $20,750, according to the permit.

The style of the Atlanta building is an appropriate fit for Facebook, whose main office in Palo Alto, Calif., sports a colorful warehouse design with exposed pipes and modern furniture.

This isn't the first Facebook office in Atlanta. Facebook currently has office space in Concourse Corporate Center, informally known as the King and Queen towers, at 5 Concourse Parkway near Perimeter Mall.
