Energy supplier to build plant near Augusta

March 28, 2012

A Texas-based maker of ceramic pellets used in oil and gas drilling announced Wednesday it will build a plant in eastern Georgia, creating 60 jobs.

PyraMax Ceramics will invest $140 million in a manufacturing center near Wrens, a city about 35 miles southwest of Augusta.

The plant will produce “proppant beads” at the planned 200,000-square-foot plant. The pellets will be manufactured using materials readily available in Georgia soil.

“We are committed to making Georgia the No. 1 state in the nation to do business and a central plank in our strategy is to boost the manufacturing sector,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in a news release.

PyraMax has purchased 190 acres of land in Jefferson County near Wrens, according to a governor’s office news release.

Georgia’s Quick Start jobs training program will provide workforce training assistance.
