Ever wonder what kinds of jobs reports are dissected to get to the nitty gritty unemployment and jobs numbers?

There are three releases journalists and officials pay attention to: the national report (or Employment Situation Summary), the state report and the metro report.

The national report is released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on the first Friday of every month.

On the third Thursday of every month, the state department releases data on the state’s unemployment and jobs numbers.

And on the fourth Thursday of every month, the state department releases municipal numbers.
