Dancing Goats Coffee Bar
650 North Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. www.batdorfcoffee.com
Dancing Goats holds the distinction as the first business to open at what is now Ponce City Market, in the famous old Sears building on Ponce de Leon Avenue, and it is surrounded by buzzy shops and eateries (for when you need a break or small distraction). That is, if you can tear yourself away from the caffeine.
According to its owners, the coffee bar's name comes from the story of a ninth-century lone goat herder named Kaldi, who noticed one day that his goats were dancing and full of energy after they ate a small red fruit from a nearby shrub. Kaldi tried one of the red fruits and soon he was also dancing. It is said that Kaldi and his goats had discovered coffee. Try the house brand "Dancing Goats The Blend" and you may find yourself dancing, too.
Hodgepodge Coffeehouse and Gallery
720 Moreland Ave., Atlanta, GA 30316. www.hodgepodgecoffee.com
If you need a little inspiration while you work, Hodgepodge is the place, as its walls are covered with the work of local artists. Located in east Atlanta, Hodgepodge offers organic, shade-grown, bird-friendly coffee and a variety of baked goods (including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and Paleo options).
Try the house coffee, the "Whirling Dervish," noted for its dark chocolate and cherry flavors.
Octane Coffee
3423 Piedmont Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30305. www.octanecoffee.com/atv
