A Duluth Best Buy store was fined $76,000 by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration for safety violations after a worker suffered severe head injuries.
In January, an employee stacking televisions on a storage rack fell 12 feet when a platform the employee was standing on on an elevated powered industrial truck suddenly tilted, according to OSHA.
Best Buy received five violations for the incident, including one for allowing modifications to a powered industrial truck without manufacturer approval. The violation is considered "serious" because there was a "substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known," OSHA said.
Two repeat violations came because at a site in Illinois in 2008, Best Buy had been cited for failing to provide protective equipment and guardrails for employees.
