The city of Douglasville launched free Wi-Fi access in the downtown area Thursday with help from a community grant from Google.

The $165,039 grant will support the Wi-Fi network, which will be maintained by Network Utility Force. The network will cover 60 acres of downtown, and Jessie Davis Park.

City officials hope to attract more people with the new hot spot, which could mean more customers for businesses in the access zone.

Google opened a data center in Douglas County in 2003 and now employs more than 350 workers.
