Despite its threats to drop the Weather Channel from its lineup, DISH continues to carry the all-weather cable network, the New York Times is reporting Friday morning.

Weather Channel officials said they would not be available for comment on Friday.

DISH also said it is not commenting at this time.

The fact that the Weather Channel remains on DISH is an indicator that the two parties continue to negotiate over so-called carriage fees, according to the Times’ media blog, Media Decoder.

DISH and the Weather Channel have been negotiating over how much the satellite provider needs to pay to carry the all-weather network. It's common for talks between cable or satellite providers and networks to break down, but it’s the first time in the Atlanta-based Weather Channel’s 28-year history that it’s actually been dropped by one of its carriers.

The Weather Channel issued a statement Thursday encouraging DISH customers to switch to its satellite TV competitor, DirecTV or their local cable provider.

Meanwhile, DISH on Thursday started rolling out the Weather Cast, which is being touted as a national "all weather, all the time" service to its customers. DISH's company statement says Weather Cast has "no movies, no wake-up shows and no stories about storms,” a direct attack against the Weather Channel's efforts to vary its programming.
