Chick-fil-A opened its newest restaurants in Killeen, Texas and Cheltenham Township, Pa. this month, and used the opportunity to tout its financial success.

The College Park chicken sandwich chain awarded a year's supply of free Chick-fil-A meals to the first 100 adults in line at the two restaurants. The giveaways, now in their seventh year, have an estimated value of $26,000 per store. By year-end, Chick-fil-A says it will have awarded nearly $13 million in free food at grand openings since 2003, with nearly $1.8 million of that amount given away in 2010 alone.

Chick-fil-A plans to open 78 new locations this year. In 2009, Chick-fil-A opened 80 new restaurants and reached $3 billion in sales for the first time. This year, the chain reported that sales had topped $1.5 billion through June, a nearly 10 percent increase over its tally for the first six months of 2009.
