Caribou Coffee, the second-largest coffeehouse chain in the U.S., is rolling out new breakfast sandwiches a year after introducing oatmeal. Caribou, which has 14  restaurants in Georgia, says it wants to be a one-stop breakfast destination.

Competition for the first meal of the day is getting more intense. Chick-fil-A just introduced a spicy chicken biscuit and McDonald's rolled out oatmeal. Wendy's is testing breakfast bars, and Subway is advertising breakfast subs.

Caribou's new sandwiches are chicken apple sausage, egg white and turkey bacon and veggie as well as two mini sandwiches: turkey bacon turkey sausage. The breakfast sandwiches are 310 calories or less. Caribou is offering a pairing of one sandwich and a medium coffee of the day for about $4.00.

"Many of our guests make our coffeehouses their first stop of the morning, and we’re proud to offer premium breakfast options that complement the level of quality they expect from our coffee," said Alfredo Martel, senior vice president of marketing and product management.
