Former Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has been named chairman of a small metro area bank wounded by the economic crisis, but attempting a comeback.

Cox was announced on Wednesday as chairman of Adairsville-based Northside Bank, which also has branches in Cartersville and Calhoun.

"The staff has been working so hard and the board and I could not be more appreciative for what they've done," Cox said in a news release. "We are a true Cinderella story, we were bent but not broken."

Northside was censured in 2009 by regulators and ordered to reduce bad loans, raise capital and improve internal operations.

Cox, who retired from the Braves after the 2010 season, also is involved in the planned LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center in Bartow County that will house youth sports tournaments as well as retail, hotels and other commercial developments.
