American International Group Inc., a multinational insurance provider, will close its claims processing center in Alpharetta, affecting 400 jobs.

A spokesman for AIG, the common reference to the company, said processes and functions at the Georgia Shared Service Center will be moved to similar operations in the U.S. and Asia Pacific.

“AIG remains deeply committed to the greater Atlanta area and has over 1,000 employees in Georgia,” spokesman Matt Gallagher said in a statement to Channel 2 Action News.

The company has about 64,000 employees worldwide.
