Atlanta-based lighting company Acuity Brands plans to expand its local operations and create 700 jobs over the next five years at facilities in DeKalb and Rockdale counties, according to a state news release.

Acuity plans to build a new engineering and technology center in Decatur and expand existing facilities near Conyers. Acuity controls several major brands, including Lithonia Lighting.

“We have great people who drive our success and have helped make us the industry leader,” Acuity Brands President, Chairman and CEO Vernon J. Nagel said in the release. “Our goal with these investments is to provide our people with the best work environment possible and the tools and technologies necessary to drive our future success.

The company plans to invest more than $16 million as part of its expansion, the release said.

“When a successful Georgia operation such as Acuity Brands decides to expand its facility and its employment roster, it’s a win for all concerned, especially for our workforce,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in the release.
