Not to belabor the blatantly obvious, but the Atlanta Falcons need to win today. They've lost two in a row. This will be their last home game until Nov. 23 against Cleveland. (Unless we count the London date with Detroit as a "home" game, which the NFL does but I'm sure Mike Smith does not.)

Lose today and the Falcons could go a while longer without winning. Next up are the Ravens in Baltimore, and then the Lions at Wembley, and then Tampa Bay and Carolina on the road. Lose today and the wondering about Smitty's job -- and Thomas Dimitroff's, not to mention Mike Nolan's -- could become a clamor by the time November arrives.

The good news is that the Chicago Bears don't look any better than the Falcons. They're likewise 2-3, having likewise lost two in a row. But I offer fair warning: There are a slew of Bears fans walking around downtown Atlanta, and I'm guessing more than a few have tickets.

And with that, the figurative floor is again open. I'll be here until one of these teams is 2-4, and I welcome your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.
