There are some interesting primary races to watch today, with voters going to the polls in Michigan, Missouri and Kansas, as we hit 13 weeks to go before the November elections.
In Kansas, two sitting GOP lawmakers are running against each other for Senate, as Rep. Todd Tiahrt and Rep. Jerry Moran square off.
They hope to succeed Sen. Sam Brownback, who is the favorite to win the GOP nomination for Governor in Kansas.
As we detailed yesterday, both Tiahrt and Moran have spent a lot of time at home in recent weeks campaigning. In fact, Tiahrt missed the last two weeks of votes in the House to focus on his campaign.
Tiahrt has tried to portray Moran as a big spender, but it hasn't worked, as editorials have labeled the attacks "bizarre."
Kansas is an interesting state to look at, because there will be a big change in that state's Congressional delegation. Of the four House seats, there will be at least three new House members from the Sunflower State, with two running for Senate and one retiring.
If you are looking for Congressional incumbents to go down to defeat tonight, there really doesn't seem to much chance of sitting House members losing their seats.
About the only one that is on the radar today is Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-MI), who barely won her party primary two years ago.
For those keeping score at home, of the 23 House members running for re-election today, 14 of them have opponents.
In the final analysis, it acutally could be a big day for those in Congress, as along with the Kansas Senate and Governor's races, Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI) tries to win his party's nomination for Governor in Michigan and Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO) tries to gain the GOP Senate nomination in Missouri.
