It was a historic night in Henry County and it turned out well for Dutchtown.

In only the second game ever between two ranked teams from Henry County Schools, No. 5 Dutchtown got two fourth-quarter interceptions, converted one into the winning touchdown, and topped No. 3 Stockbridge 21-14. The victory broke Stockbridge’s 42-game regular-season winning streak and left Dutchtown one win short of its first region championship.

Ja’Shaun Poke came up with an interception early in the fourth quarter. That led by a 38-yard touchdown from Nate McCollum to give Dutchtown the lead. Corey Minner Jr. got a pick to end Stockbridge’s next possession and point the Bulldogs toward the win.

Dutchtown scored on a 5-yard run by Kevon Green and a 21-yard run by Chris Coneway.

Jevon McDonald threw a 20-yard touchdown to Isaiah Taylor, a drive set up when Devion Newsom blocked a punt. McDonald also connected with Kerick Reese for a touchdown.

“It’s the Dutchtown way,” coach Clifford Fedd told the Henry Herald. “That’s what we’re supposed to do. We’re doing things right and playing disciplined football and playing together as a team. That’s what I was brought her to do and that’s what we’re doing.”

Dutchtown can nail down the region title next week with a win over 1-7 Eagle’s Landing.

No. 8 Wayne County wins, sets up region showdown: The Yellow Jackets (9-0) outlasted New Hampstead 31-20 and could win the Region 2 title with a season-ending victory over Ware County.
