What we learned: Conley leads Kell in upset of Carrollton
Kell quarterback Evan Conley picked a great time to have one of his best games. What
Conley threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns to help the Longhorns to a 31-10 win on Friday.
Conley connected with Ebony Jackson for a 49-yard pass. He sparked a 17-point second quarter, scorng on a 7-yard run and throwing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Brown, who had five receptions for 84 yards. Logan Flesher added a 35-yard field goal to put the Longhorns ahead 24-10 at the half. Conley scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter to put the game away.
Carrollton got a 24-yard field goal from Connor Smith-McCrum and a 6-yard touchdown run from Kashif Taylor. Trent Lane was the top rusher with 63 yards and Taylor threw for 164 yards, but was sacked four times and threw two interceptions.
The outcome leaves Kell, Carrollton and East Paulding in a three-way tie for second place in Region 7. Rome has already defeated all three teams.
Warner Robins-Thomas County Central moved to Saturday: Lingering issues from Hurricane Michael forced the schools to move the game to Saturday at 5 p.m. The game could determine the Region 1 champion.
No. 1 Rome wins laugher: Jamious Griffin rushed 18 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns and Traceton Lawrence ran for two more as Rome whipped Paulding County 68-7. Quarterback Knox Kadum threw for 56 yards and one touchdown and ran for another score.
Buford rolls on: Aaron McLaughlin threw three touchdown passes and Derrian Brown rushed for two scores in the rout. The Wolves also got a 94-yard scoop and score on Davin Bryant's fumble recovery.
