The Lambert girls used a 3-0 win over Brookwood to advance to the Class AAAAAAA State Finals. The Longhorns are now a perfect 22-0 on the year and have outscored their opponents 107-3. Meeting them in this weekend’s final is North Gwinnett, which went into overtime with Parkview 2-2, and defeated the Panthers in PK’s 4-3.
The Dacula girls led Heritage-Conyers 1-0 at the half and poured on a five-goal second half to stamp a 6-0 win. The Falcons will meet with Harrison in the Class AAAAAA championship after the Hoyas defeated Johns Creek 4-2 in PK’s.
The McIntosh girls defeated Riverwood 3-0 to advance to the Class AAAAA finals for a fourth consecutive year. The Chiefs found the net just 11 seconds into the match on a goal by Bailey Wagenknecht. Grace Podolski pushed the lead to 2-0 with 28 minutes left in the match and Wagenknecht completed her brace with 13:53 left on the clock. The Chiefs will face Whitewater in the finals, after the Wildcats’ 2-1 win over Carrollton.
St. Pius defeated Blessed Trinity 3-2 and will meet with Flowery Branch in the Class AAAA girls finals after the Falcons’ 2-1 win over Columbus. Westminster topped Greater Atlanta Christian 4-1 and Lovett scored a 1-0 win over Jefferson to set up an all-Region 5 showdown in the girls Class AAA finals. Westminster defeated Lovett 4-0 on the road when the two teams met on April 5.
Vidalia secured a finals berth on Monday with a 2-1 win over Model and will face St. Vincent’s Academy in the Class AA girls finals after its 2-0 win over Bremen Tuesday night.
In Class AAAAAAA boys defending state champion Lambert squared off with 2017 state champion Meadowcreek. The Mustangs struck first, but Lambert’s Kyler Darsey netted the equalizer with five minutes left in the first half and the score held until the end of regulation and overtime. Leading 4-3 in PK's, Lambert's Nick Alliston netted the game-clinching goal as the Longhorns took the shootout 5-3. Lambert faces Lakeside next after the Vikings’ 2-1 win over Milton.
Dalton improved to 23-0 with a 6-1 win over Pope and will face Gainesville in the boys Class AAAAAA finals after the Red Elephants forced overtime 2-2 and scored a dramatic 3-2 shootout win over Cambridge.
Starr’s Mill advanced past Johnson-Gainesville in Class AAAAA to advance to the state championships for the first time since 2010 and McIntosh used a 3-0 win over Whitewater. In Class AAAA, Oconee County and Southeast Whitfield ended regulation 3-3 and Oconee County took PK’s 5-4 to set up a showdown with Upson-Lee, which defeated Druid Hills in PK’s.
Two-time defending Class AAA champion Westminster is returning to the finals after topping Jefferson 3-0 on Tuesday and Coahulla Creek scored a 2-1 win over Benedictine to punch its finals ticket.
In Class AA, Union County was a 3-0 winner over Vidalia and Thomasville cruised past Putnam County 6-1.
