Now that we’re heading into the home stretch of the regular season, it’s time to take a look at the Power Rankings. The top 24 teams on each side advance to the state playoffs, which begin Nov. 9. Remember, the eight region winners are seeded first based on points. The top 12 teams on each side receive a bye through the first round.

Observations: Region 6 has the most teams in the top 24 thus far with seven, followed by Region 8 with five, Region 5 with five, Regions 3 and 7 have three each and Region 4 has one … Athens Academy has a significant lead over Savannah Christian and the rest of the field, due largely to their win over Class A Stephens County, which is 4-2, and close wins over region rivals Prince Avenue Christian and George Walton, who are a combined 12-2 … At this point, Mt. de Sales, North Cobb Christian and Trinity Christian would all host playoff games in Round 2. The last two seasons, Mt. de Sales and NCC were a combined 12-29 while Trinity is in its first season competing in the Georgia High Schools Association ... It appears as if Landmark Christian, now sitting at No. 32, will miss the post season for the second consecutive year. The last time that happened was during a three-year playoff drought from 1998-2000.

Observations: Region 2 leads the way with six teams currently in the top 24, followed by Region 1 with five, Regions 3 and 4 with four each, Regions 6 and 7 with two each and Region 8 with one … Currently, No. 7 Schley County would receive a first round bye and then host a playoff game for the second consecutive season. Prior to last season, the Wildcats had missed the post season every year since 2008. Meanwhile, No. 14 ECI, a perennial title contender, would have to go on the road for its first round playoff game for the first time since 2013 … It's not time to panic just yet, but No. 25 Lincoln County is in jeopardy of missing the post season for the first time since 1973.
