Jonesboro and Savannah Christian won their way into the Atlanta Journal-Constitution high school football rankings this week after beating Top 10 teams.

Jonesboro, now No. 7 in Class AAAA, beat previously unbeaten Spalding 21-9. Spalding fell to No. 10.

Jonesboro had been ranked earlier this season after beating another ranked team, current No. 8 Sandy Creek, but exited after losing to Eagle’s Landing. Jonesboro (6-1, 2-0) is chasing its first region title since 1949.

Savannah Christian is in the Class A Top 10 for the first time this season after beating previous No. 5 Calvary Day 14-3. Calvary Day fell out.

Walton (AAAAAA) and Adairsville AAA) returned to rankings, each cashing in on ranked teams that lost. Walton replaced previous No. 6 Lee County, which was beaten by No. 1 Colquitt County 54-17. Adairsville replaced previous No. 9 Jackson, which was upset by Spencer 34-14.

Three other teams remained ranked despite losing.

In AAAA, previous No. 5 Ware County lost to unranked Glynn Academy 14-7 and fell to No. 9. Ware, Glynn and No. 8 Coffee each are 1-1 against other in Region 3-AAAA. Ware had won 34 straight games that count in region standings since 2010.

St. Pius beat Marist 24-14, and the two switch places in AAAA – St. Pius now at No. 6, Marist at No. 9.

Pace Academy remained at No. 7 in AA despite a 33-13 loss to No. 3 Greater Atlanta Christian.

Four games this week match ranked teams. They are No. 2 Houston County at No. 7 Jones County (AAAAA), No. 5 Peach County at No. 8 Jackson (AAA), No. 10 Brooks County at No. 2 Fitzgerald (AA) and No. 9 Union County at No. 5 Rabun County (AA).
