Playoff preview: Class A private quarterfinals

Mount Pisgah Christian at Calvary Day

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, M.C. Anderson Field, Savannah

Records, rankings: Mount Pisgah Christian is 8-3, the No. 9 seed and unranked; Calvary Day is 11-0, the No. 1 seed and No. 4.

Last meeting: This is the teams' first meeting.

Three things to know: 1. Calvary Day was the Class A private-school runner-up to Aquinas in 2013. Mount Pisgah was knocked out by Aquinas in the semifinals. 2. Mount Pisgah Christian QB Aaron Winchester has thrown for 1,770 yards and 23 touchdowns, four in a 38-14 victory last week against Landmark Christian. He also has rushed for 1,163 yards, including at least 100 in each of the past four games. Ben Miller has 42 catches for 754 yards. Leading tackler Osby Dixon has 11 stops behind the line. Nick Piccapietra had seven tackles and an interception against Landmark. 3. Calvary Day RB/LB Robert Heyward is the team's leading rusher (1,107 yards) and tackler (67 solo in regular season). He ran for 118 yards in a 26-7 victory over Christian Heritage last week. Calvary ran for more than 300 yards in the absence of starting QB Sal Calderon, out with a season-ending injury. Brant Sanders took his place.

Records, rankings: Eagle's Landing Christian is 5-6, the No. 5 seed and unranked; Prince Avenue Christian is 9-2, the No. 4 seed and unranked.

Last meeting: Eagle's Landing Christian won 33-0 in the 2012 Class A private-school final.

Three things to know: 1. This is a rematch of the 2012 Class A title game, won by ELCA. The teams also played in a preseason scrimmage this season. Prince Avenue won 22-16 in a three-quarter varsity game, but the star of the game, Kevon Hudson (126 yards rushing, seven carries) was injured and lost for the season in the first regular-season game. 2. Prince Avenue rushed for 308 yards and attempted only three passes in a 55-30 victory over First Presbyterian last week. Freshman Matthew Hill returned a kickoff 99 yards and a blocked punt 13 yards for touchdowns and has a 7-yard TD run. Prince Avenue also got a 36-yard punt return and 68-yard kick return by Jonah Doster to set up scores. Doster leads the team with 858 yards rushing. 3. ELCA quarterback D.J. Hammond nearly doubled his season rushing total when he ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-0 first-round victory over Athens Christian. He has 767 yards passing. Sophomore Trevor Gear had 103 yards, often running behind the size and strength of Chandler Reeves (6-6, 260) and Ryan Meneely (6-2, 295). DB Davis Reynolds intercepted two passes.

Savannah Christian at Mt. Paran Christian

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Mount Paran Stadium, Kennesaw

Records, rankings: Savannah Christian is 10-1, the No. 6 seed and No. 8; Mount Paran Christian is 11-0, the No. 3 seed and No. 3.

Last meeting: This is the teams' first meeting.

Three things to know: 1. Some view these as the hottest teams remaining in the Class A private division. Mount Paran led Stratford Academy 35-0 at halftime in a 45-14 victory last week. Savannah Christian led Pacelli 42-0 at halftime last week in a 49-26 victory. Savannah Christian won a state title in 2011. Mount Paran started football in 2008 and won its first region title this year. 2. Dorian Walker rushed for 126 yards against Stratford. Walker has run for 1,702 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season. QB Jake Allen was 7-for-7 passing for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He has thrown for 1,112 yards with only one interception. Preseason all-state WR Emoni Williams ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns against Stratford and has seven receiving touchdowns on the year. 3. Savannah Christian's Wade Benton rushed for 111 yards against Pacelli, giving him 800 on the season. WR/RB/DB Demetris Robertson, a transfer who gained his eligibility in the eighth game, has scored nine touchdowns on just 26 touches (20 rushes, 6 receptions). He has returned one kick for 75 yards (non-scoring).

Tattnall Square at Aquinas

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aquinas Stadium, Augusta

Records, rankings: Tattnall Square is 10-1, the No. 7 seed and No. 9; Aquinas is 11-0, the No. 2 seed and No. 1.

Last meeting: Aquinas won 49-21 on Nov. 7 in the Region 7 championship game.

Three things to know: 1. Aquinas is the defending Class A private-school champion. Tattnall Square is one of three prominent former GISA schools to join the GHSA this season, and the only one still playing. 2. Tattnall Square RB J.J. Battle scored on a 63-yard run and Ahmad Barron caught a 46-yard TD pass from Ian Herndon last week in a 23-0 victory over Pinecrest Academy, which was 6-of-19 passing with two interceptions. Tattnall averages fewer than five passes per game, but Herndon was 8-of-11 for 91 yards against Pinecrest. Tattnall gets has four players with more than 500 yards rushing led by Jonathan Ward (946). 3. Aquinas WR Daniel Lindsey rushed for 125 yards and caught seven passes for 76 yards in a 42-28 victory over St. Francis in the first round. He also rushed for 241 yards in a mid-season game against Mount de Sales but has no other games with more than five attempts. Ruben Garnett has rushed for 1,725 yards and 24 touchdowns. Liam Welch has thrown for 1,676 yards. He was 12-of-14 for 186 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over Tattnall Square on Nov. 7.
