The Parkview offense currently on display is the one coach Eric Godfree expected to see before the season began. With their skill position players clicking and their offensive line blocking at a high level, the Panthers rolled to a 50-19 win over rival Brookwood on Friday night.

“Those first three or four games we were trying to find our offensive identity,” Parkview coach Eric Godfree said. “And losing a player like Malik Washington (now at Northwestern), who could make a play at any moment, took some adjusting for our kids. Now we’ve got several kids stepping up and making those plays.”

The 50 points was the most scored by either team in Gwinnett County’s premier rivalry. Brookwood leads the series 22-16, but Parkview has won the last two meetings.

“It’s 100 percent nice to beat Brookwood,” said Godfree, himself a Parkview graduate.

On Friday it was senior quarterback Jordan Williams and junior wideout Jared Brown who did much of the damage. Williams completed 10 of 17 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Three of the touchdowns and 214 yards went to Brown, who fell 20 yards short of the school’s single-season record. Brown had touchdown catches of 49, 72 and 73 yards.

“Having (Williams) being able to execute allowed use to put up 50,” Godfree said.

Running back Cody Brown did his typical share of heavy lifting, too. The junior carried 20 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

After a last-minute kickoff return allowed Brookwood to cut the halftime lead to 22-19, Parkview responded by scoring on its first three possessions of the second half to take control of the game. A 6-yard run by Tyler Curtis, a 40-yard run by Cody Brown and a 72-yard pass from Williams to Jared Brown upped Parkview’s lead to 43-19. The Panthers iced it with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Williams to C.J. Daniels.

“In the second half we make a couple of adjustments on defense,” Godfree said. “And our offensive line in the second half played tremendously well. The big thing about the halftime was we came out and executed.”

Williams said, “We just had to put them out. Had to put them in the coffin and make them give up. It’s satisfying. We got the victory.”

Brookwood kicked a field goal on its first possession, with Jake Cartmill good from 41 yards.

Parkview took the lead two possessions later when Cody Brown scored on a 21-yard run to make it 7-3.

Brookwood answered when Jack Spyke hooked up with T.J. Burdian for a 69-yard touchdown and a 9-7 lead.

The Broncos thought they had recovered the ensuing onside kick, but officials ruled they had touched the ball before it traveled the required 10 yards. On the next play Parkview scored when Williams connected with Jared Brown for a 49-yard touchdown. A two-point conversion pass from Williams to Cody Brown gave the Panthers a 15-9 lead.

It stayed that way until 6:04 left in the half when Cartmill booted a 40-yard field goal to pull Brookwood to within 15-12.

Parkview struck again on a 73-yard pass from Williams to Jared Brown, who shook off a tackler around the 20 and completed the score to give the Panthers a 22-12 lead.

But Brookwood’s Eli Kohl returned the kickoff 95 yards and cut the lead to 22-19 at halftime.
