Results from rescheduled games

Hurricane Michael forced the movement or postponement of several games over the weekend. In games that were moved to Saturday, No. 2 (Public) Clinch County downed Turner County, 41-12, while No. 6 (Public) Charlton County defeated Wilcox County, 35-14. Meanwhile, the game between No. 9 (Public) Mitchell County and Seminole County has not been rescheduled yet.

Mount de Sales, North Cobb Christian fell

Two of the nine teams that entered the weekend undefeated went down on Friday night. Mount de Sales (6-1, 2-1 in Region 7-Division A) lost to Macon-area rival Tattnall Square (5-3, 4-0), 28-17. The Trojans began the year 1-3 but have now won four in a row to take command of the subregion lead. A win in two weeks over another Macon-are rival, First Presbyterian Day (2-5, 2-1) will put Tattnall Square in the region title game, on Nov. 2, most likely against No. 5 Aquinas (7-0, 3-0). In Kennesaw, North Cobb Christian’s (6-1, 3-1) best season ever hit a speedbump as No. 7 Mount Zion-Carroll (7-1, 4-1) came to town and dealt NCC its first loss of the season, 24-14.

Aquinas, Commerce, Pelham remained unbeaten

While Mt. de Sales and NCC went down, the seven other undefeated teams in the classification – No. 1 (Public) Irwin County, No. 2 (Private) Athens Academy, No. 3 (Public) Commerce, No. 4 (Private) Fellowship Christian, No. 4 (Public) Pelham, No. 5 (Public) Marion County and No. 5 (Private) Aquinas – all remained that way. Aquinas and Commerce had the closest calls. Aquinas rallied from an 8-3 deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Hancock Central (4-3, 2-2 in Region 7-Division B), 16-8, while Commerce held off Hebron Christian (4-3, 2-1 in Region 8-Division B), 21-18, after leading 21-10 heading into the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Pelham continued its torrid pace with a 48-6 win over Chattahoochee County. The Hornets led 21-0 after one quarter.

Schley County on historic run

For the first time in the 19-year history of the program, Schley County has won six consecutive games. The Wildcats are 6-1 overall and undefeated (4-0) in Region 4-Division B. Schley County, located about 100 miles southwest of Macon, lost its season opener to No. 5 (Public) Marion County, the top team from the other side of Region 4, and has not lost since. The Wildcats are No. 8 in the AJC Top 10 Public poll and No. 7 in the Public Power Rankings.
